An Environmental Threat to Floyd County

A potential installation of 18 - 443' tall wind turbines on Wills Ridge

  1. Interesting exercise there, but actually Wills Ridge isn't a prime location, limited access to roads and power grid, sporadic winds, and turbulent conditions due to topography. Better winds are available along the BR plateau in Floyd, Carroll, Roanoke and Pulaski Counties, and ought to be developed by private landowners- as should be their right. If the fuel is free the hardware should pay the bills.

  2. I appreciate your comment "Anonymous." It is my understanding that 3 "industrial scale" wind developers have made inquiries into Wills Ridge. These developers are not private land-owners at all. They seek to lease land from private land-owners and form massive land collectives for reaping tax shelters for large Wall Street investors.
Indeed the wind is free and can be captured and prove very useful for energy generation to land owners for site based use, while reducing fossil fuel emissions on a surprisingly larger scale. Grid based transmission and distribution losses ranging from 10 to 20% make such industrial scale environmental sacrifices far more costly to the planet.

Watch for the next post describing another potential "industrial scale" installation in Carroll County along the ridge from Poplar Camp to the horseshoe bend in the New River.

PS Kudos for recognizing that we all have many opportunities individually and on much smaller scale to make a greater positive impact on our future. Don't be shy about revealing your identity.
